A family practice physician’s office called for resumes of our Medical Assistant graduates. Six resumes were sent. Two graduates had phone numbers on their resumes that had been disconnected, so they lost out on a possible interview. Three graduates answered the call and set up interview times. One grad did not show up or even bother to call and let the office know they were no longer interested. The other two went to their interviews, and they went well.
Both grads had the skills the doctor was looking for. One grad had a tattoo showing on her chest. She wore a low cut blouse to the interview, and tried to cover it with her hair. The doctor had a small, conservative family practice and did not want to risk their reputation. Even though the office manager liked the girl with the tattoo, the other candidate was hired.
Dress for success! Dress conservatively, and take extra steps to cover tattoos until you know the office’s policy about them.
