Grand Junction, Colorado – IntelliTec College in Grand Junction will participate in the 2015 Grand Valley Health Fair with a variety of services free to the public. Medical Assisting students will utilize their skills in taking vitals and providing patient education during this two-day event to be held March 27 and March 28 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm at the Two Rivers Convention Center.Plan to attend the Grand Valley Health Fair in Grand Junction for a variety of free services and activity demonstrations
“Our students continue to offer support for all healthcare organizations with their ongoing volunteer work,” states Leslie Barlow, Director of Education at IntelliTec College in Grand Junction. This benefits both students and the public. “It’s an opportunity for the medical assisting students to practice newly acquired skills and to work directly in their community,” added Barlow.
IntelliTec Students Provide Valuable Hands-On Assistance Before and During Health Fair
Medical assisting students assisted with a pre-blood draw from February 23 through March 8. Approximately 1,500 participants of all ages paid only $30 (the average cost is $250 for lab fees alone) for a complete blood work-up.
According to Fran Parker, Mesa County Health Department Specialist and 2015 Health Fair Coordinator, “IntelliTec students and graduates were critical volunteers during this process.” Screening participants could take the report to their personal doctors or bring it with them to the upcoming health fair for a blood screen review by participating physicians.
Other IntelliTec programs also plan to offer their support during the health fair. Dental assistant students will help with patient education and business students will assist attendees with the registration process.
Local Volunteers Manage Community Focused Health and Wellness Event
The Grand Valley Health Fair is an entirely local event, managed by volunteers who work diligently with their local healthcare specialists to encourage Mesa County residents to take charge of their health. The event continues to offer access to low-cost blood draws, free health screenings, health information, and fun and informative hands-on activities for all ages.
“The 2015 Grand Valley Health Fair is a wonderful combination of traditional offerings with new health opportunities,” explained Parker. “We couldn’t be more excited about the community relationships this event continues to foster and build for a healthy Mesa County.”
Grand Valley Health Fair Offers Fun and Games for “Kids” of All Ages
Children will enjoy new kid-friendly activities, and attendees of all ages will have the opportunity to participate in activity demonstrations scheduled throughout the fair.

Some of the hands-on activities include:
