Pueblo, Colorado – Aspiring fitness professionals in Pueblo can now train to become certified personal trainers in IntelliTec College’s Personal Trainer Program. Students will train in small, hands-on classes using modern facilities and specialized equipment in this 18 month, Associate of Occupational Studies degree program. Through a partnership with The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), students will prepare to sit for four industry examinations and have the added benefit of training under the official NASM curriculum. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to effectively help people achieve their fitness goals and change their lives.
Personal Trainer Program Supervisor Peggy Wisthoff explains, “The program provides the skills and knowledge necessary for careers where assuming responsibilities of evaluating, communicating proper nutrition, fitness assessments, leadership, business and sales, as well as optimum performance for sport-specific skills are valued.”
The new Personal Trainer program at IntelliTec College in Pueblo officially begins May 27, 2014. Anyone who enjoys physical activity and has an interest in teaching people how to live healthier lives will do well in this program. Within a new 2,300+ square foot, on-site fitness center, students will learn how to teach specific techniques that will show clients how to enhance their workouts and make them as effective as possible to reach their fitness goals. General and specialized equipment, such as an Olympic power rack and platform, Olympic bumper plates, dumbbells, elliptical machine, climb mill, rowing machine, treadmills, kettle bells and medicine balls will be utilized in the day to day training.
The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) is the world leader in personal training education and credentialing. They offer the some of the most prestigious accreditations in the health and fitness industry and their certifications are highly valued by employers. NASM also provides a unique opportunity to learn protocols and techniques of the world renowned Optimum Performance Training (OPT) model to insure clients achieve long- term, safe and effective training. Graduates of this program will be prepared to sit for various NASM certifications, including:
- Certified Personal Trainer (CPT)
- Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES)
- Fitness Nutrition Specialist (FNS)
- Mixed Martial Arts Conditioning Specialist (MMACS)
Graduates of IntelliTec’s new Personal Trainer program have an advantage over their competition. In addition to the partnership with NASM, each student will complete a 120-hour externship where they will have the chance to practice and sharpen their new career-focused skills. By applying their newly attained knowledge and hands-on skills in a real fitness setting, students will be able to experience what it is like to have real clients and possibly begin to begin to build a name for themselves.
Students of the new Personal Trainer program will benefit from personalized training and instruction from experienced instructors who care about the students’ success. Small classes allow for more personalized instruction. Program Supervisor Peggy Wisthoff has a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion and has many years of experience in the fitness industry, including personal training, nutrition and group exercise.
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, “employment of fitness workers is expected to increase 29 percent over the 2008–18 decade, which is much faster than the average for all occupations.”
Personal trainers can enjoy a variety of rewarding careers in the fitness and nutrition industries.
