Colorado Springs, CO – IntelliTec College, in association with the Pikes Peak Mechanical Contractors Association and the Carbon Monoxide Safety Association, hosted a Carbon Monoxide Safety Training course for Silver Key bus drivers on January 7th. This training provided carbon monoxide (CO) safety instruction and personal CO monitors to Silver Key drivers so they might assist in the detection of Carbon Monoxide in the homes of the senior citizens they transport.
IntelliTec College’s Refrigeration and AC-HVAC Technician program’s Project Manager Chuck Fonda explains, “IntelliTec College is always looking for ways to help support our community, and when it comes to HVACR we are able to assist a variety of ways using our skills in HVACR and our campus during the off hours…in the future we hope we can partner up with these great organizations and do more community out-reach.”
Silver Key provides information and services to the elderly population of El Paso County, advocating for senior empowerment, independence, safety and quality of life. The Silver Key Training was held at IntelliTec College’s Colorado Springs Campus, located at 2315 E Pikes Peak Ave. The personal CO monitors were provided through a grant from Pikes Peak Regional Building Department (PPRBD) and distributed by the Pikes Peak Mechanical Contractors Association (PPMCA). They will serve to alert the drivers to any level of CO in the air around of in the homes of their elderly passengers.
Bob Dwyer of COSA says, “IntelliTec College has been instrumental in developing local CO Safety programs for COSA as part of their student curriculum since 2007 and has helped trigger improved programs in other training locations across the state of Colorado.”
