It provides students with a real-world business office setting and externships at local business offices. Students will learn basic office procedures, marketing, accounting and business finance. Enrollment is now open for a September 30th start.
IntelliTec is excited to bring this program to Pueblo and fill a need for skilled administrative individuals in the community. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, “Overall employment of secretaries and administrative assistants is expected to grow 12 percent from 2010 to 2020.”
The program offers the most up-to-date equipment and business software available. Each student also receives a brand new nexus 7 Google tablet upon entering into the program, which they take home with them after graduation. These tablets will be utilized for e-book learning in place of physical textbooks.
Students of the new program will trained in a classroom that has been transformed into a real-world office setting – complete with office desks, brand new computers, a conference room and phones to practice calls with the Grand Junction campus. Program instructors have knowledge and experience working in the business world, and they are excited to share their expertise to the students.
Career preparation is achieved through hands-on learning, utilizing the most current software and practicing on equipment that they will actually use in their future careers. Director of Education Kent Burger explains, “In addition to basic skills and office procedures, we are helping to build professional character, work group dynamics, communications, professionalism and ethics.” Courses also prepare students to sit for four professional certification exams in their field.
Students will spend the last portion of the program in an externship. Each student will spend 120 hours working in a local business office, for which they will be graded on their presentation, professionalism and overall skills.[boilerplate about-pueblo]
