Grand Junction, Colorado – IntelliTec College has answered the community’s plea for hands-on Cosmetology training in Grand Junction. Registration has begun for this 15- month professional Certificate program. The new program will give students skills to begin careers as salon or spa professionals, become a Colorado State Board licensed cosmetologists and even run their own businesses. The program features modern facilities and experienced, passionate instructors.
Cosmetology is a growing career field with opportunities. At IntelliTec College, students will train hands-on in the College’s newly constructed salon to become successful salon professionals. Students learn about hair styling, nail care and skin management. They are also trained in business practices, marketing and sales to give them foundational skills for owning or managing salon businesses.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, “Overall employment of barbers, hairdressers, and cosmetologists is expected to grow 14 percent from 2010 to 2020, as fast as the average for all occupations.” The Bureau mentions how important it is for a prospective Cosmetologist to “graduate from a state-approved cosmetology program.” The cosmetology training an IntelliTec student will can also prepare her or him to sit for the Colorado State Board of Cosmetology licensure exam to become a licensed cosmetologist. A student must complete the required number of credit hours – which IntelliTec’s cosmetology program provides – to apply for a license and begin work as a cosmetologist in Colorado.
IntelliTec College’s Cosmetology program instructors are chosen for their knowledge, skills and experience in the industry. It’s all about what they can bring to the program and how their particular skill sets can inspire, encourage and enhance a student’s experience. Program supervisor Brenda Allen has been working the beauty industry for ten years, six of them as an educator. Instructor Stephanie Edwards touts 20 years of experience, both practicing and educating. These women have a passion for cosmetology and mentoring students. They are motivated and excited to be a part of this new career training program in Grand Junction.

IntelliTec’s new Cosmetology salon consists of 25 hair stations, six manicure stations, two deluxe and four floating pedicure stations. The facility also houses three spacious classrooms, a Learning Resource Center and a Tec Cafe for students to relax in. The salon is completed with a dispensary where students receive product for client services. High quality products such as Matrix, American Crew and Bioelements are also available for purchase.
There is a functioning salon in the school where, after completing 12 weeks of theory and hands-on training with manikins, students will perfect their skills in the salon with real clients. The community benefits from the low cost salon services and additional discounts offered for special events.
This Cosmetology program is perfect for someone who enjoys working in a social environment and takes pride in helping others look and feel beautiful. Program Supervisor Brenda Allen says she is “looking for professional students…who are dedicated, hard working and strive to be successful in the busy salon industry.” 15 months is all it takes to learn and practice skills for this exciting new career.
