Get started on your new career today!
With social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace in use, keeping up with old friends and long lost family members is easier than ever. Tweeting and instant messaging on phones and computers has never been so easy. Fast and convenient is what it’s all about these days.
With that in mind, here are a few tips to remember:
Know Your Audience and adjust your language and grammar accordingly. While “c u l8r” may be appropriate for your buddy, it may not be ideal for a potential employer.
Be Careful of What You Say. Social networking sites are not private. Ranting and raving about work, school, or family could be just a mouse click away for a complete misunderstanding. People look at your posts and begin to formulate an idea of the type of person you are. If you are complaining all the time on Facebook, a potential employer may think twice about hiring you.
Be Careful What You Post, Like or Share. Everyone enjoys a good laugh every now and then and there are plenty of images out there that are funny. However, posting lewd images can be offensive to some people and more than likely will drive a potential employer in a different direction
Be Aware of Who is Watching. Employers, teachers, and coworkers can tell if you are being productive or not. Keep these tips in mind and enjoy social media for what is, a way to stay connected.
