As the 2008 winner of the Prometheus HVAC Excellence Training Award and the winner of the 2009 COSA Carbon Monoxide Safety Education Award, the HVAC program at IntelliTec College supports Carbon Monoxide Safety Education and "is part of the Solution!"
The College has a specifically designed and equipped classroom which consists of a six room apartment fondly known as the "Monoxide Manor". This interactive classroom has a fully functional metal duct system and a horizontal gas furnace installed in the loft above. Additionally, the HVAC Technician classroom adjacent to the Carbon "Monoxide Manor" prepares students for hands-on performance testing of a walk-in residential setting. Our "Monoxide Manor" includes multiple appliances, building & duct pressures, a state-of-the art carbon monoxide (CO) detection system with remote sensing and readout capability. This facility allows for student aptitude verification as well as full service skill retention testing. What's more, multiple windows allow professional observers and students to safely view activities at a close range from the classroom.
This "Monoxide Manor" provides the IntelliTec students actual "hard hat" opportunities and real problems to diagnose. In addition, the working boiler system and combustion systems in the performance lab also afford a variety of skill set training scenarios for the students to perform and pass during outcome assessment evaluations.
