"Every time I attend my students' graduations my batteries get recharged. I'm excited for them to start their careers and find success in this industry. I also love it when they come back to visit to share their professional accomplishments as well as to ask advice. "

Get to know Eric...

  • How do you respond to challenges in life? I believe it’s vital to handle your personal challenges first. If you don’t it’s impossible to move ahead professionally. Then set small, personal goals and work on them one by one. Suddenly everything else seems to fall into place.
  • What do you find rewarding about working in the HVAC industry? I started out exactly like my students – I didn’t know a thing about HVAC, but I knew I had a mechanical aptitude for fixing things. It’s incredibly satisfying to be able to do things for yourself and for others, and in this field you get to understand how things really work.
  • What career advice would you offer to students about to graduate? Determine what’s important to you. Do you want to want to make money quickly but not have longevity in your career? Or do you want job security and a steady paycheck? Assess your drive and limitations honestly and make sure you’ve chosen a career you can progress in and enjoy. Finally, don’t be stagnant; study and stay ahead of the curve to remain relevant.
  • Finally, if you had to share a single piece of advice for prospective students in your department, what would it be? The hardest part is the jump, but once you jump we’re there to offer a huge amount of support along the way. so it’s no free-fall. Then set out with a plan and say to yourself, “I’m going to take on that task and make it work.” That’s pretty empowering for anyone.
