IntelliTec Massage students offer services at the Pueblo Chemical Depot Awards Ceremony

Pueblo, Colorado – Massage Therapy students at IntelliTec College in Pueblo donated their time and massage skills to give back to Mother Earth and the Pueblo community in honor of Earth Day. They hosted a “Massage in the Park” event, gave free massages at the Pueblo Chemical Depot and raised Earth Day awareness on campus.

The first Annual “Massage in the Park” event took place on Monday, April 22 – Earth Day – in the middle of Pueblo’s City Park between 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Fourteen massage students and 3 licensed massage therapists provided free ten-minute chair massages to the public while surrounded by nature. “The reason I wanted to do ‘Massage in the Park’ on Earth Day was to incorporate massage and healing into the month’s celebration. Holding it in the Park was a way to do it in Nature,” explains IntelliTec’s Massage Therapy Program Supervisor Shonna Dent. The Massage Therapy department created this IntelliTec-sponsored Earth Day event to reach out to the community and to connect students with licensed Massage Therapists from all over Colorado.

Dent exclaims, “I absolutely Love Earth Day and we (the Massage Therapy department) celebrate every year. The students love participating in the events that we coordinate. It gives them an opportunity to meet potential clients, to give back to the community, to learn how to network and market themselves as well as (learn) how important professionalism in the community is.” The students receive class credit for participating in any event held during class time.

Back at the College, Massage instructors created ‘Earth Day’ flower seed packets – complete with attached inspirational quotes – and handed them out to the entire student body. This annual, on-campus tradition engages the campus and spreads awareness for Earth Day. IntelliTec College also makes a cash donation to the Pueblo Nature Center every Earth Day.

Prior to Earth Day, Massage Therapy students were busy raising awareness. They spent Thursday, April 18^th, at the Pueblo Chemical Depot providing massage services to Earth Day award ceremony attendees. The Pueblo Chemical Depot is chemical weapons storage site boasting “a continuing commitment to 4 environmental principles: stewardship, pollution prevention, compliance and continual improvement.” Every year they celebrate Earth Day with an awards ceremony to honor their environmentally conscious staff.

Congressman Tipton Inspires New Grads in Grand Junction

New Business Degree Program at IntelliTec

Grand Junction, Colorado – IntelliTec College is now offering a new career-training program in business. It features in-depth classes in accounting, finance, office procedures and computers in addition to basic business classes. This 18-month Associate of Occupational Studies degree prepares students to sit for at least four industry certification exams and gives them an overall understanding of how businesses operate.

2013 Hair Show IntelliTec College of Pueblo Cosmetology School

Pueblo, Colorado – The Cosmetology program at IntelliTec College hosted a Fantasy Hair Show to introduce IntelliTec’s newest beauty school talent to the local salon community. Pueblo salon owners judged the “Earth, Wind and Fire” hair art, and winners received donated prizes worth up to $600 in beauty supplies.

The Fantasy Hair Show was held at 5pm on Sunday, Feb 10^th at Felice’s Pizzeria on South Pueblo Boulevard. Nine cosmetology students created hair models for the show. Prizes were donated by Pam Huber, the distributor at Salon Centric in Pueblo. In addition to pizza and refreshments, there was a DJ and dancers to entertain the crowd before and after the judging. All students who participated in the event received class credit and an opportunity to promote themselves locally, within their chosen field.

Program Supervisor Melissa Bruce said the hair show “was a huge success! The students out-did themselves!” They loved the experience and “asked for it to be an annual event.” She would love for IntelliTec College to host two hair shows a year to promote continuing community involvement and networking.

The goal was to show local salon owners what IntelliTec cosmetology students can do and to open up possible career opportunities within salons after graduation. Cosmetology program Instructor Dean Smith, cosmetology instructors and students hosted the event.

IntelliTec would like to invite any and all local salon professionals to come out to future hair shows and lend their expertise while enjoying some great food, refreshments and entertainment.

Non-Smoking Campaign for 2013

Grand Junction, Colorado – IntelliTec College has recently initiated their first ever “quit smoking” campaign to promote student enhancement in 2013. A new year means new resolutions and new opportunities for students to better themselves. For 24 weeks, IntelliTec will educate students about the effects of smoking by inviting guest speakers, sharing student success stories and providing information from health experts.

IntelliTec College wants its students to know that there is never a better time than now to make the commitment to quit smoking; it just might save their lives.

January was National Blood Donor Month

Grand Junction, Colorado – IntelliTec College held their quarterly blood drive on January 29, 2013. The blood drive was part of an ongoing community outreach program meant to replenish the blood bank for the recipients of the local Western Valley hospitals. IntelliTec encouraged the community to come out and save a life while also gaining a sense of fulfillment and self worth.
