Press Release – For Immediate Release
Pueblo, Colorado – IntelliTec College students in Pueblo took care of EVRAZ Steel Mill employees by providing them with free healthcare, beauty and wellness services at a health fair this month hosted by their employer. Approximately 25 students from the College’s Massage Therapy, Cosmetology and Medical Assistant programs participated in the fair. IntelliTec Students volunteered their time at the Steel Mill October 16-18 in the mornings until the early afternoon.
EVRAZ hosted the event “to increase overall wellness and healthcare access to its employees,” said Rachel Lawler, the lead admissions representative at IntelliTec College of Pueblo. IntelliTec’s Massage Therapy students gave massages, Cosmetology students offered haircuts and Medical Assistant students administered flu shots.
EVRAZ employees were not required to take part in the health fair, but the turnout was impressive, and participants were grateful for the services donated by IntelliTec students. 400 of the 1500 EVRAZ employees participated in the event. Steelworkers as well as those in administrative positions benefited from services provided by students.
IntelliTec students donated their program-specific services when asked by EVRAZ to participate. Rachel Lawler, Medical Assistant Program Supervisor Peggy Gunther and Campus Director Andreas Nilsson worked together with EVRAZ to coordinate the event. IntelliTec students appreciated the opportunity to be involved in the health fair and serve their community. Students gained hands on experience and contact hours in a non-school environment.
According to the EVRAZ North America website, “EVRAZ Pueblo was established in 1881 (originally as the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company)…and produces the finest rail, seamless pipe, rod and coiled reinforcing bar available.”
