Press Release – For Immediate Release
Colorado Springs, Colorado – IntelliTec College’s Hugo Perez is the 2013 CACCS “Student of the Year” in Computer Technology. Perez just completed the Computer Network Systems Technician program at IntelliTec College in Colorado Springs. He was chosen for this award due to his dedication to excellence, his leadership skills and his commitment to the program. He wants to use this honor to encourage others to follow his example and reach their highest potential.
The Colorado Association of Career Colleges and Schools (CACCS) is an organization that protects and promotes the interests of career colleges and their students. Every year they select a student from each program category, who has been nominated by their instructors, to be “Student of the Year.” Students are selected based on excellence in professionalism, performance of course work and commitment to the program and their chosen career path.
Perez maintained a 4.0 GPA and a high attendance rate. He was IntelliTec’s Student of the Year for the CNST program, has been a Student Ambassador, a tutor, did a work study and was President of the NTHS. He says, “It feels so good, like a huge accomplishment.” The award makes him want to be an example and mentor to others even more. Perez will officially graduate on August 17th with his Associate of Occupational Studies degree. The CACCS ceremony is Friday September 6th, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at the Denver Post office.
Computer Network Systems Technician Program Supervisor Rick Butler describes Perez as being “a key part of the Computer Technology department for just over a year now and has been very distinctive as a student leader…it is my opinion that Hugo is truly deserving of this distinction.” He mentions that Perez “is sincerely interested in learning about IT so he can, with his background in the medical field, couple the disciplines. [He wants to] be the first at IntelliTec to get the CompTIA Healthcare IT certification.”
Perez is a retired member of the U.S. Army Special Operations and combat veteran. He is using his G.I. Bill to complete school and plans to continue his education to get his Bachelor’s degree before entering into his career field. Perez originally started his education at another institution, but wasn’t really getting what he wanted out of it. He came to IntelliTec for the hands-on training. He specifically loved that the instructors were knowledgeable in their fields, and he wants to encourage other students to stick with it even when it’s hard, saying, “If I can do it, you can do it.”
Perez gave a short speech during a recent orientation. After the speech a few of the new students approached him to congratulate him on his award and tell him that he had inspired them. They wanted to achieve what he has achieved. Perez felt honored by this and he hopes to continue to inspire others.
